Recent News & Announcements:
On January 30, Kids Supporting Kids, an initiative of the UNM Center for Life, will hold its Third Annual Gala & Benefit Performance Fundraiser, Celebrate! at the Hiland Theater in Albuquerque, New Mexico raising funds and support for the UNM/CFL Integrative Medicine Pediatric Cancer Care Fund. The evening will feature a cocktail hour and dinner along with performances from over 400 Albuquerque youth and adult artists along with special surprise guests.
When a pediatric patient is fighting cancer and going through chemotherapy or radiation there are components, such as chronic pain and nausea that are not always addressed by conventional medical care. That's where the UNM Center for Life and integrative Medicine come in. Through acupuncture, massage, healing touch and other CAM (complementary and alternative medicines) services, the Center's care providers are able to assist in supporting the whole person in their healing process.
Unfortunately, these integrative services are not covered by the patient’s insurance benefits. That is why UNM pediatric oncologist Dr. Linda Butros and UNM Center for Life director of advance manual therapies David Lang created Kids Supporting Kids. It is an initiative to raise funds for integrative oncology services for children fighting cancer that insurance won't cover. Supported by fundraising efforts such as the annual gala, the focus of the program is to create community engagement and allow young people to help support their peers fighting and thriving through cancer, especially through the sharing of performing and visual arts.

The Life Enhancement Fund is the CFL's patient assistance fund. Unfortunately, those most vulnerable in our communities frequently have the least access to quality healthcare services. An investment in this fund can bring healing and hope to those who could benefit greatly from our team of integrative practitioners.
